While many tourists come to Bali to enjoy its beaches, sunsets, and trendy cafés, I often experience a different side of Bali through canyoning activities in the North Bali region. As an assistant guide at Canyoning Bali, I spend almost every day in rivers, waterfalls, and canyon trails together with travelers who are looking for a unique adventure experience during their holiday in Bali.
At first, I never imagined that I would work in Bali’s adventure tourism industry like this. However, after frequently exploring the canyons directly and accompanying tourists from different regions and countries, I began to realize that canyoning is not only about extreme sports, but also about experiencing Bali’s natural beauty in a completely different way.
Every morning before the trip begins, the instructors and I prepare all the equipment needed for canyoning activities. Starting from helmets, harnesses, wetsuits, ropes, gloves, and canyoning shoes, everything must be checked carefully.
Since Banyuwana Canyon is classified as a beginner-level canyon, many of the participants are tourists trying canyoning for the very first time. Therefore, the atmosphere during the briefing is usually relaxed because many participants are still curious and slightly nervous. As an assistant guide, my responsibility is not only to help participants wear their safety equipment. I also assist them throughout the journey, from giving directions and helping during rappelling to calming participants who are afraid of water or heights.
One of the things I love most about Banyuwana Canyon is its incredibly natural atmosphere. It is located in Wanagiri, an area in North Bali well known for its cool air, green forests, and numerous natural waterfalls. As soon as you enter the canyon area, the atmosphere immediately feels different. The sound of flowing water is calming, the air feels cool, and the river trail is filled with natural rocks that make the journey feel like an adventure deep in the forest.
In my opinion, this canyon is perfect for travelers who want to try their first Bali adventure experience. Since it is beginner level, the route is relatively safe and comfortable for beginners.
During a canyoning trip in Banyuwana Canyon, participants usually experience several exciting activities such as waterfall rappelling, natural slides on river rocks, and swimming through the canyon stream. Participants will complete seven rappels reaching heights of up to 25 meters and three natural slides reaching up to 3 meters. Although there are no major cliff jumps, the journey through this canyon still feels exciting and enjoyable.
One of my favorite moments is when participants try their first waterfall rappel. At first, many of them look scared and hesitant, but after successfully descending with the rope, their expressions immediately change into excitement and enthusiasm. Sometimes there are participants who are initially very afraid of water or heights, but after finishing the trip, they become the most enthusiastic and often say they want to try the next canyon level. After completing the canyoning trip, we usually return to the basecamp to shower and enjoy lunch while reviewing the photos and videos taken during the adventure.
As an assistant guide in Bali’s outdoor activity industry, I often see how canyoning can help people become more confident. Many participants feel proud because they successfully overcome challenges they were previously afraid of. In addition, working at Canyoning Bali has brought me closer to the natural beauty of North Bali. Almost every day, I can enjoy the sound of waterfalls, fresh air, and the atmosphere of untouched forests.
One of the most enjoyable parts of this job is that every trip always has a new story. Sometimes there are participants who are funny and full of energy, while others are quiet at first but eventually become the most active during the journey.
I also often help take photos and videos of participants during the canyoning activities. Usually, after seeing their photos among the waterfalls and canyon rivers, participants become even happier and more satisfied with their experience.
In my opinion, canyoning is not only about extreme sports or seeking adrenaline. It is also about enjoying nature, teamwork, building courage, and creating unforgettable experiences during a holiday in Bali. Therefore, if you are looking for something different beyond beaches or mainstream tourist attractions, trying Canyoning Bali at Banyuwana Canyon is definitely worth experiencing. Besides enjoying an exciting adventure, you will also discover another side of Bali that remains natural and full of adventure. The atmosphere at Banyuwana Canyon is truly perfect for travelers who want to enjoy North Bali’s natural tourism while experiencing fun outdoor activities.
For me personally, becoming an assistant guide at Canyoning Bali is not just a job, but also a life experience filled with exciting stories every single day. Every journey always brings new challenges, new people, and new experiences amidst the beautiful nature of North Bali.
