Written by Abyan/Intership in Canyoning Bali
While many tourists come to Bali to enjoy its beaches and sunsets, I had a completely different experience because I spend my days interning in the world of canyoning. As an assistant guide at Canyoning Bali, I have the opportunity to experience firsthand the excitement of outdoor adventures surrounded by the untouched natural beauty of North Bali.
At first, I never imagined that I would intern in Bali’s adventure tourism industry. However, after getting directly involved in canyoning activities, I finally understood why this activity has become increasingly popular among international tourists.
Every morning before the trip begins, the instructors and I prepare all the equipment needed for canyoning activities. Starting from helmets, harnesses, wetsuits, ropes, gloves, and canyoning shoes, everything must be checked carefully. In Bali adventure activities like canyoning, safety is always the top priority.
Once the guests arrive, the briefing atmosphere is usually relaxed. Many participants are trying canyoning for the first time, so they often look nervous. Some are afraid of descending cliffs, jumping, swimming, or even slipping because the canyon trail is filled with river rocks. However, that is exactly what makes the experience so exciting.
As an assistant guide, I help tourists throughout their journey in the canyon. When they successfully complete their first waterfall rappel, their expressions instantly change into excitement and happiness. Moments like these are what make me feel that working in North Bali’s nature tourism industry is incredibly enjoyable.
In my opinion, Egar Canyon has an absolutely breathtaking atmosphere. The cold and crystal-clear river water, cliffs covered in green moss, and the sound of waterfalls make the journey feel peaceful and refreshing. During one Canyoning Bali trip, participants usually experience several activities such as:
• 7 waterfall rappels, with the highest reaching 15 meters.
• 3 natural slides on river rocks from a height of 3 meters.
• 1 jump into a natural pool from a height of 4 meters.
• Cliff descents.
• Swimming through the canyon.
After completing the canyoning trip, we usually return to the basecamp to shower and enjoy lunch while reviewing the photos and videos taken during the Egar Canyon adventure.
Although it may seem extreme, this activity is actually quite safe because all participants are accompanied by professional guides. In fact, Egar Canyon is suitable for beginners who want to try extreme tourism in Bali with a level that is still friendly for everyone.
What I love most about this job is that every trip always has a different story. Sometimes there are guests who are extremely afraid at first, but after finishing the trip, they become addicted and want to try other canyons with higher difficulty levels. There are also guests who come specifically to look for unique outdoor activities in Bali that are different from ordinary tourism experiences.
Besides gaining exciting experiences, working in the canyoning industry has also brought me closer to nature. Almost every day, I get to enjoy rivers, waterfalls, and the peaceful atmosphere of North Bali’s lush forests. In my opinion, canyoning is not only about extreme sports or seeking adrenaline. It is also about appreciating nature, building courage, and creating unforgettable experiences.
Therefore, if you are looking for a unique holiday experience, trying Canyoning Bali can be one of the best choices. Especially in the Gitgit area, which is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and suitable environment for various Bali adventure activities. For me personally, becoming an assistant guide at Egar Canyon is not just a job, but also a life experience filled with exciting stories every single day.
